About worshipers of always drunk Hindu god who you would rather never meet.
Today lots of people are fond of Indian culture. Some wanted to reach a certain mental state through the process moral search and self-discovery at Buddha and Gandhi’s motherland. Others, attracted by the lazy and careless way of life, have at least once dreamed of moving to Goa. But only few can imagine how far the variety of Hindu beliefs goes.
One good example of Hindu cults which may seem extreme and quite weird to foreigner is the small Shivaist cult called Aghori (“non-scared”) that separated from the now extinct cult of Kapalika (“skull-wearing”).
Aghori followers are radical hundu. Even the Indians fear them and feel disgusted at their sight as there is a belief that even eye-to-eye contact with a member of Aghori cult can ruin your karma forever. And it is actually quite understandable: aghori live only in the places of cremation and use human skulls as dishes. They think that the ritual of eating from one's skull transfers one's power to them. It is known that cult members place the dead men's spirits under their command, sometimes they even try to resurrect the corpses. It is also said that aghori copulate with prostitutes, drink much alcohol and smoke weed and sometimes even eat human flesh – in other words, they break as many Hindu prohibitions as possible. These ascetics worship horrific Shiva who is, according to the legend, is always drunk.
As aghori themselves say, everything that is disgusting and beautiful in the world is united in one god who can be reached if you destroy this limit between beauty and disgust in you. That is the key point in Aghori cult: to reach freedom by rejecting all the borders.
The description of all the weird cult features would take much time and also they are kept in big secret. Nevertheless, it’s really exciting and useful to watch the nightlife of “non-scared” by yourself.
By the way, you can meet the cult followers near the famous Varanasi. But would you?
